"nIt's not as bad as it could be," she mumbled out.

Grace was silent. She felt like that cracked her insides. It doesn't have to be so good for me, I'm lucky. She thought to herself.

Luke may not know what goes on during relationships, but he did know men usually weren't the clingy ones. Sane men, anyways. In fact, he knew so little about socialization that people had started calling him names when they were little. This continued all the way up until Coast Guard training when he volunteered to box with the drill sergeant. Down like a sack of bricks, he heard one of the cadets say. Like a fuckin' sack of bricks.

Grace twiddled her thumbs, "I mean, not... really that bad. I'm not really good enough, it makes sense..." she said barely above a whisper.

"Excuse me?" He asked, outraged. "Not good enough? That asshole should be the one worrying about not being good enough! What does he even do for a living, huh?"

"He's a theater major, Luke, he's in a constant state of study." she said. It's true for any performing arts major. She and Juliet barely ever see each other since she's always training for the next dance performance.

"Right, and how often do you think he's gonna get work? What I do now is nothing compared to how often I'll be gone when I join up with the Rangers."

She raised an eyebrow at her brother, "I'm gonna be a biochemist, I can handle myself, Luke. And he can handle himself wherever theater takes him..." she doubted herself but didn't let it show.

Luke sighed. He didn't mean to tell her about the Rangers. He wanted to wait until they were at their parents' before bringing it up.

They sat in silence for a minute. Grace thought of a million things she could say should say about Mason and how he's a terrible person but they were all pushed back with thoughts about how none of it was that bad. She texted Juliet mindlessly for another minute before blurting "I mean, so what? Everyone fights. We fight. We're twins, roommates, best friends forever, and we hate each other half the time."

"Look," Luke said gesturing with his hand. "It's not even about the theatre thing. It's about how well you guys get by after college. We have an apartment, yeah, but I'm gone half the time and we don't have the room or money for a third person."
